DC and the acting scene

Good morning people,

DC--ugh

I am currently annoyed at my location--the nations capital. I feel 'stuck' in DC, because there aren't that many acting jobs here and I'm constantly getting notices for productions casting in NY or LA or Chicago or virtually anywhere but DC. My suspicion as to why this is is that DC has very strict rules for filming movies. I'm sure it is POSSIBLE to be a working actor in DC, I just don't really know how. Also, SNOW. I hate snow. It's fun as long as it doesn't interfere with plans, which it is doing. ugh

Talent Agencies in DC

On a different and more positive note, I met with Kids International Talent Agency on Saturday and am really excited by the prospect of them representing me. While they are a small agency, no doubt about it, they seem to be very credible and are SAG. From what I've read (and heard) the top agencies for those in DC are Kids International, Camera Ready Kids, and Linda Townsend (who's a manager). The benefits of being a talent in a SAG agency are that your agent can only take a certain percentage of what you make (usually 10%) and will help find you another agent if/and when you decide to make the move to a bigger market or if you have to move for other reasons.

I did an audition video for a web series in Maryland on Friday, called 'Amongst The Undead' which you can see here.

Open Calls

I have found that in DC, if you search for them, and I mean really search you can go to an in person audition once every two weeks or so, which is nothing compared to the multiple auditions a day that you can attend without an agent in New York or California for someone my age--but, ya know, it is still something. With an agent, I don't yet know.

Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodnight till it be morrow.

I'm Back In Black

Yeah. So I haven't blogged in a long time. I've been busy :/. Oops!?! I could write about the many auditions that I haven't heard back from or didn't get, but why bore the few prospective readers I have? I did, however, hear back from a guy I auditioned for in October. He said he ended postponing his short film because he got the chance to work on a reality show with KHLOE KARDASHIAN! How cool is that? And that he wants to include me in another project he's going to do in the future.

Recipe Keeper - Say mmm
So I found this free site called "Say mmm" that allows you to create meal plans, store recipes, and creates shopping lists automatically. It's awesome and you guys should try it out here.

Oatmeal Powerballs

First, let me say I usually only love 'health food' in abstract and while making it, not eating it. These are an exception. They have a somewhat weird, but good taste and they're great for a quick and healthy snack. I had to modify the recipe from one I found on another blog because of a lack of ingredients.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup chia seeds
1 1/4 cup raisins
dash nutmeg
dash salt
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2  tbsp honey
1 cup almond butter

Directions

Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl
Mix in almond butter, honey, and vanilla until you get a cookie dough like mixture.
Roll the mixture into 1 inch balls.
Keep in the refrigerator and enjoy them for up to a week.

Notes: I ended up putting in almost half of my almond butter container. I probably didn't need THAT much, but it was definitely a little over 1 cup. Extra honey can be used as a substitute for vanilla extract for a stronger taste.

BTW, if you don't know who Alanis Morisette is you NEED to check her out. My dad used to play her songs around the house and recently I've become obsessed with them.

Sophia
